In a significant step for Romania’s renewable energy sector, Simtel Team has completed and commissioned a 52 MWp solar power plant in Giurgiu County. The facility, now online as of late 2025, is not only Simtel’s largest project to date but also stands as Romania’s largest photovoltaic park built through ecological reconversion on formerly degraded industrial land. The plant is set to generate approximately 73 GWh of green energy annually, enough to significantly contribute to the national grid.
A Landmark Romania solar plant Project
Marking a major milestone, the Giurgiu solar park was fully developed by Simtel, from land acquisition to final commissioning. The project is a prime example of successful ecological transformation, having been constructed on a former ash disposal site. This innovative approach turns a non-productive, degraded area into a clean energy powerhouse.
The facility is equipped with over 85,000 solar modules, a testament to the scale of modern solar farms and the complexity of the solar panel manufacturing process. The entire operation is managed by 170 smart inverters and connected to the national grid via six transformer stations and a newly built high-voltage substation. The project’s total value is estimated at EUR 31 million, with financing secured through a combination of a €12 million grant from Romania’s National Recovery and Resilience Plan and additional loans. Simtel Secures Largest Romania solar plant Project in H2 2024
When the project was initially signed, Iulian Nedea, founding partner and CEO of Simtel Team, highlighted its strategic importance. “The 52 MW project is the largest in Simtel’s portfolio and the largest project signed by the company in the second half of 2024,” Nedea stated. “We expect that in the coming months, we will continue to develop and sign contracts for large projects with installed capacities of over 100 MW, both in Romania and in the Republic of Moldova.”
Nedea also noted that the company has an expanding portfolio of projects, especially in Moldova, where they have ongoing developments such as a 51 MW project in Telenesti and several others exceeding 100 MW. He attributed this growth to the company’s mature team and expertise in handling large-scale projects, from understanding the basics of solar panel manufacturing to complex grid integration.
Expanding Romania’s Green Energy Horizon with a new solar plant
With the completion of the Giurgiu park, Simtel Team continues to solidify its position as a leader in the Romanian renewable energy sector. The company’s portfolio now includes nine solar projects in various stages, totaling 153 MW. Looking ahead, Simtel is already planning its next major venture: the 70 MW Bughea solar project in Argeș County, targeted for commissioning in the second quarter of 2027. These large-scale developments are crucial for bolstering energy security not just in Romania but across Europe, contributing to a more stable and interconnected green energy grid that benefits all EU member states, including Germany.
