Acciona and Grupo Pais Develop 63.35 MW Solar Project in DR

ACCIONA Energia — Spanish renewables company — and Grupo Pais are collaborating on a 63.35 MW solar project in the Dominican Republic.

ACCIONA Energía and Grupo País to Develop Pedro Corto Solar Plant

ACCIONA Energía has announced the development of a new solar project in the Dominican Republic. The Pedro Corto solar plant will be developed in collaboration with Grupo País, with ACCIONA Energía holding a 51% stake and Grupo País owning the remaining 49%.

The project is situated in the province of San Juan de la Maguana, and will have a capacity of 63.35 MW. Its construction is tied to a 15-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Edesur Dominicana —one of the three state-owned distribution companies in the Dominican Republic.

Solar Facility to Power 78,000 Dominican Households

The facility will use solar panels mounted on single-axis trackers that adjust their position throughout the day to follow the sun. This technology optimizes sunlight exposure and maximizes production, reaching 189.07 GWh annually, enough to power 78,000 Dominican households.

The plant is scheduled to commence operations by the end of 2025. This project will prevent the emission of over 130,000 tons of CO2 annually, equivalent to removing 50,000 cars from the road. Furthermore, the project will be integrated into ACCIONA Energía's Social Impact Management program. This program allocates a portion of the company's annual revenues to social, environmental, and training initiatives designed to improve the well-being of local communities.

ACCIONA Energía Expands Portfolios in the Dominican Republic

ACCIONA Energía initiated operations at its inaugural photovoltaic facility in the Dominican Republic, the 58 MWp Calabaza I plant, in 2023. The company is concurrently constructing the 162 MW Cotoperí photovoltaic project in collaboration with Cotosolar Holding SA, a consortium encompassing the JMMB Sustainable Energy Fund (FES), managed by JMMB Funds, Grupo País, and other minority investors. Upon completion, this solar complex, comprising three photovoltaic plants, will solidify its position as one of the largest in Central America and the Caribbean.
