Catalyze—a renewable energy developer—has launched a 4.8 MW community solar project in Frankfort, New York. The project is designed to provide electricity to residential and commercial customers, including subscribers from low- and middle-income households.
Catalyze and Human Technologies Advance Solar Development
Catalyze utilised New York’s Inclusive Community Solar Adder (ICSA) program designed to expand access to community solar in underserved areas to complete the installation. This initiative is helping lower energy costs for Frankfort residents, create new jobs and speed up the energy transition in a rural region where solar installations have historically been difficult due to shading and other challenges.
The site was established on a designated brownfield owned by Human Technologies, showcasing Catalyze's proficiency in developing renewable energy projects on previously disturbed land. Recently, the company transformed a former landfill in Lancaster, NY into two active solar sites. Through this partnership, Catalyze and Human Technologies contribute to New York's community solar objectives of installing six gigawatts (GW) of distributed solar by 2025 and 10 GW by 2030.
"We have had great success in New York, both deploying renewable energy to help meet climate goals and supporting community development with new clean energy projects. Human Technologies has deep expertise in the Frankfort area, and it was a pleasure working with them to connect with local stakeholders and better understand the area.” said Jared Haines, CEO of Catalyze.
Catalyze Expands 79 MW Solar Portfolio in New York
This project marks Catalyze’s sixth community solar initiative in New York with locations in Amherst, Lancaster, Potsdam, Grand Island, Castignetti and Sherman. The company is developing a 79-megawatt (MW) portfolio of community distributed generation (CDG) solar projects throughout the state, backed by $100 million in funding from the New York Green Bank.
“At Human Technologies, we are committed to not only creating meaningful employment opportunities for people with disabilities but also to supporting initiatives that benefit the communities where we live and work. Partnering with Catalyze on this solar project allows us to contribute to both environmental sustainability and local economic growth by transforming a former brownfield into a clean, renewable energy source for our region.” said Tim Giarrusso, President/CEO of Human Technologies.
