EDF Renewables, in collaboration with AME and Marubeni, has celebrated the opening of the Cerrillos solar power plant in the María Elena municipality of the Antofagasta region. With a robust capacity of 600 MW, this establishment stands as Chile’s largest privately funded solar plant, wholly committed to renewable energy. This initiative mirrors the aspirations of EDF Renewables Chile, which currently manages approximately 1,000 MW of renewable energy across the nation.

Spanning an impressive 1,700 hectares, the Cerrillos solar plant is home to 1.5 million bifacial solar panels. These panels are capable of generating 1,200 GWh of electricity annually, sufficient to power about 600,000 homes. Additionally, the site is equipped with two 100 MW battery energy storage systems, each boasting a capacity of 200 MWh. This setup enables the plant to store and release electricity as needed, thereby bolstering the stability of Chile’s electric grid.
