Uzbekistan solar energy Sector Expands with 11 Stunning Plants

Uzbekistan solar energy expansion: A green revolution in Central Asia

Uzbekistan is making remarkable strides in expanding its solar energy sector, with 11 solar plants currently operational and several more under construction. Among these, the crown jewel is the 1,000 MW Samarkand solar station, set to begin operations soon. Developed by MASDAR, this ambitious project is expected to generate an impressive 2.5 billion kWh of electricity annually and create 2,000 jobs during its construction phase. The country has also successfully launched the 500 MW Jizzakh and 250 MW Bukhara solar power plants, each contributing 1.2 billion kWh of electricity annually. These projects were completed within a commendable timeframe of 16 months, with a total investment of $430 million from MASDAR. Additionally, the inauguration of the 500 MW Jizzakh and 274 MW Samarkand solar power plants, alongside a 220 kV substation, marks a significant milestone earlier this year. Together, these plants are expected to produce 1.5 billion kWh of electricity annually, saving 438 million cubic meters of natural gas and reducing CO2 emissions by 750,000 tons. Future Uzbekistan solar energy initiatives

Uzbekistan’s commitment to renewable energy is further evidenced by several other solar projects nearing completion. These include the 220 MW Sherabad, 100 MW Khavast, 250 MW Kashkadarya, and 300 MW Namangan plants. Additionally, the 240 MW Qashqadaryo and 300 MW Namangan solar power plants are set to begin operations by the end of the year.

Through these initiatives, Uzbekistan is making significant strides toward its ambitious goal of producing 8 GW of solar energy by 2026 and 12 GW by 2030. This positions the nation as a leader in renewable energy within the Central Asian region.
