Verano Energy, a renewables developer focused on Latin America, has begun building a 200-MW solar park in Argentina, building on its previous projects in Chile, Peru, and Colombia. The San Rafael Solar Park is expected to commence operations by late 2025.
San Rafael Solar Park Secures Grid Access with Strategic Partnerships
With its environmental impact assessments and electrical studies complete, the San Rafael Solar Park is a fully developed project. Because Argentina’s limited interconnection capacity is only accessible through tenders, Verano Energy partnered with an undisclosed “leading renewable energy company” in the country to secure grid connectivity for the plant.
According to Verano, the San Rafael solar park offers significant advantages, including high solar radiation, favorable terrain, easy accessibility, and a major on-site substation. Once operational, it will play a vital role in meeting local energy needs and supporting the country’s sustainability goals.
Verano Energy Expands Solar PV Initiatives in Latin America
Known for its projects in Latin America, Verano Energy currently operates over 350 MW of renewable energy capacity and has a development pipeline exceeding 3 GW across Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Argentina. In Peru, the company plans to build nearly 6 GW of solar PV capacity aimed at producing green ammonia.
Verano Energy’s CEO, Dylan Rudney, highlighted the Peruvian market as “under the radar,” noting its significant potential for renewable power generation and for producing resources like green ammonia. Earlier this year, the developer also sold a 150 MWp project in Mendoza to an undisclosed buyer.
Solar Project to Enhance Local Economy and Support Sustainability Goals
The solar project is expected to generate numerous jobs during its construction and operational phases, boosting the local economy. It will also help Argentina meet its broader objectives of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to a more sustainable energy model.
Verano Energy’s investment aligns with a growing trend in the region, as countries throughout Latin America increasingly prioritize renewable energy. This project positions Verano Energy to play a key role in shaping Argentina’s energy landscape and fostering a greener future for the nation.
As construction moves forward, the project underscores the company’s commitment to sustainability and innovation, contributing to the growth of renewable energy in Argentina.
