Qcells USA Completes 50-MW Solar Hybrid Plant in California

Qcells announces the successful completion and commencement of commercial operations for the Ocotillo Wells Solar project situated in Borrego Springs, California. This initiative integrates solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS), boasting a capacity of 50 megawatts (MW) of solar power and 200 megawatt-hours (MWh) of battery storage.

The Project Features Over 113,000 of Qcells Solar Modules

Ocotillo Wells is the largest utility-scale renewable project in San Diego County. The solar project is a testament to Qcells' expertise in providing comprehensive engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services to solar and energy storage projects.

Alongside the EPC team's efforts in designing and building the solar and energy storage infrastructure, the project features over 113,000 of Qcells solar modules. The combination of solar power generation and battery storage technologies ensures the grid has a dependable and eco-friendly energy supply.

Energy From the Project Will Be Purchased by Meta

Meta, one of the world's largest renewable energy buyers, will purchase renewable energy from the project. Since 2020, Meta's global operations have been powered by 100% renewable energy and have achieved net zero emissions. The company also aims to reach net zero emissions across its entire value chain by 2030.

The Project Is a Milestone for Qcells

The completion of this project marks a significant milestone for Qcells, reinforcing its commitment to advancing clean energy solutions in the U.S.

"We are excited to accomplish the construction of the Ocotillo Wells Solar project. Getting to the finish line on a project like this reflects our dedication to providing energy solutions that support the growth of American energy. We are honored to contribute to the energy landscape and execute another clean energy project that aids America's energy transition." says IP Kim, president of Qcells USA.

Qcells is transforming the energy sector through its integrated approach, providing solutions for solar and energy storage development, EPC services, and module sales. This project marks a significant milestone for Qcells and plays a crucial role in advancing the clean energy transition across the United States.

Job Creation and Economic Impact

Beyond its environmental benefits, the Ocotillo Wells Solar project has also positively impacted the local economy. It generated nearly 250 jobs during its peak construction phase and created hundreds of direct and thousands of indirect job opportunities across sectors such as logistics, supply chain, manufacturing, and construction. This emphasizes Qcells USA's role as a vital job provider in the communities it operates within.

The Ocotillo Wells Solar project not only advances renewable energy infrastructure but also bolsters economic growth, making it a significant achievement for both Qcells and the San Diego County region.
