Solar Energy Expansion: Stellantis Adds Over 500 MW in Europe

Stellantis is scaling up on-site solar power installations across its European manufacturing facilities, with projects completed or underway at 27 sites adding more than 500 MW of installed capacity. This initiative supports the company’s broader decarbonization strategy, which includes implementing battery energy storage systems at 20 sites.

According to Stellantis, around 68% of electricity consumed across its European manufacturing operations now comes from decarbonized sources. The company aims for on-site self-consumption to reach 31% of energy usage at these plants in 2026. Some facilities, particularly in Tychy, Poland, and Zaragoza, Spain, are expected to achieve self-consumption rates of 60% and 80%, respectively.

The solar systems are being integrated through various structural adaptations, including rooftop installations, parking canopies, and ground-mounted systems. Stellantis has opted to deliver these projects mainly via on-site power purchase agreements, allowing energy partners to manage installation and operation before the ownership transitions to Stellantis.

Solar Energy Expansion and Energy Storage

In alignment with its renewable energy strategy, Stellantis is also focusing on implementing significant battery storage solutions alongside its solar projects. As part of the expansion, the company is advancing toward enhanced energy management and efficiency for its manufacturing operations.

Future Goals for Solar Energy Expansion

Stellantis’ commitment to integrating renewable energy reflects an industry-wide trend toward sustainable manufacturing practices. By enhancing its energy portfolio, the company aims to mitigate its carbon footprint while supporting the broader objectives of sustainability in the automotive sector.
