New Directive for Rooftop Solar Vietnam by Vietnam’s Ministry
Vietnam’s Ministry of Industry and Trade has issued a directive to enhance the deployment of rooftop solar installations, prioritizing public buildings and household self-consumption. The new directive mandates that ministries, provincial authorities, and the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) outline investment plans, secure funding, and achieve set targets by March 31, 2027.
Goals for Rooftop Solar Vietnam in Public Institutions
Under the directive, local ministries and authorities are instructed to accelerate the installation of rooftop solar systems on government buildings, offices, schools, and hospitals that they oversee. This initiative aims to not only improve energy efficiency but also to contribute to national electricity conservation efforts.
Support for Households with Rooftop Solar Vietnam
Provincial People’s Committees are encouraged to develop local policies that facilitate household installations of rooftop solar systems for self-consumption, aligning with the upcoming 2024 Electricity Law.
Battery Energy Storage Systems Integration for Rooftop Solar Vietnam
The directive also encourages localities to initiate programs that support rooftop solar systems integrated with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), in accordance with Decree No. 243/2026.
Grid Integration Oversight for Rooftop Solar Vietnam
In addition, EVN is tasked with ensuring that its affiliated power companies manage the initial inspections related to the connection, installation, and operation of these grid-connected rooftop solar systems, consistent with Decree No. 58/2025.
Context of the Rooftop Solar Vietnam Directive
The directive is a part of Prime Minister Directive No. 10/CT-TTg aimed at promoting electricity saving and advancing the development of rooftop solar power. This is intended to help mitigate expected power shortages in the country.
