Cameroon Solar Project Advances with 44 MW Initiative
Cameroon is developing a 44 MW solar photovoltaic project with battery storage in Banyo, located in the Adamawa region. The project, a collaborative effort among Fondecoh, the Banyo municipal council, and Supernova Energy, was presented to the national electricity regulator, Arsel, on September 8, 2026, in Yaoundé.
The plant is designed to provide electricity to Banyo and its surrounding communities. As of now, Arsel has not issued a generation license nor a power purchase agreement, and no details regarding the financial closure of the project have been revealed.
Key aspects such as the investment cost, construction timetable, grid connection point, evacuation voltage, expected annual output, and battery storage size remain undisclosed. The project is currently in its preliminary stages.
The proposed solar capacity significantly exceeds the 7.2 MWp planned within Cameroon’s Energy Compact under Mission 300, which includes several smaller solar installations across various locations, including Banyo.
