North Macedonia Solar Power Project Overview
North Macedonia plans to develop two solar power plants with a combined capacity of up to 100 MW at the former Oslomej coal mine in western North Macedonia. The projects are developed in partnership with the state power utility, Elektrani na Severna Makedonija (ESM).
North Macedonia Solar Power Financial Details
The estimated investment for the projects is approximately €80 million. A private investor will operate the solar plants under a 35-year contract. The contract stipulates that the investor will pay ESM an annual fee equal to 10% of electricity-sale revenues and will transfer the facilities to ESM when the contract expires.
North Macedonia Solar Power Timeline and Bidding Process
The bidding deadline for the project was set for May 8, with the winning bidder being selected primarily based on the highest revenue share offered to the state utility.
North Macedonia Solar Power Environmental and Economic Impacts
This initiative contributes to North Macedonia’s transition from coal to solar energy. It aims to reduce pollution, repurpose a former mining site, and create employment opportunities for individuals displaced from the coal sector.
North Macedonia Solar Power Context
