New Latvia Solar Energy Project in Ventspils
Latvia is advancing its renewable energy initiatives with a new solar installation planned for Ventspils’ Piejūras Open-Air Museum. The rooftop system aims to generate electricity for the museum’s own use, which will help reduce both operating costs and emissions.
Latvia Solar Energy Project Timeline and Funding
Installation of the solar panels is expected to begin in spring 2027 and be completed within the same year. The project has a total budget of €35,286, comprising €28,134 from Latvia’s Modernisation Fund and €7,152 from the local Ventspils municipality.
Broader Impact of Latvia Solar Energy on Energy Landscape
Renewable energy sources, including solar and wind, are increasingly contributing to electricity supply in the Baltic region. This expansion can potentially lower electricity prices during periods of high renewable output, although Latvia still depends on imports when domestic generation does not meet demand.
Related Latvia Solar Energy Developments
In addition to the museum project, the European Investment Bank is backing Sunly’s development of four solar parks in Latvia, with a combined capacity of 329 MW. This capacity is estimated to provide electricity to approximately 180,000 households.
Future Projections for Latvia Solar Energy
Latvia’s total solar energy capacity is projected to reach 4 GW by 2025, marking a significant increase in the nation’s renewable energy infrastructure.
