Bridlington Town AFC has completed the first phase of its ambitious rooftop solar project, installing 400 solar panels at the Mounting Systems Stadium. The new system is expected to generate 180kW of clean energy, significantly reducing the club’s energy costs while supplying excess power to the national grid.
Savings and Community Benefits from Rooftop Solar
Bridlington Town AFC, a football club in East Yorkshire, has successfully launched the first phase of its rooftop solar project at the 2,800-capacity Mounting Systems Stadium. The installation of 400 rooftop solar panels is part of a wider initiative to promote renewable energy in football, allowing the club to rely on cleaner, more sustainable power.

Beyond sustainability, the installation is a financial game changer. With projected annual savings of up to £42,000, the project helps the club combat rising football ground energy prices. These savings will enable Bridlington Town AFC to reinvest in key areas—from team development and an enhanced playing budget to new community initiatives. The club has also announced plans to pass the financial benefits on to its loyal fans by potentially lowering ticket prices, making matches more accessible for everyone.
Partnerships Driving Solar Energy Adoption
The installation was made possible by Pure Renewables, a Duracell Energy Platinum Partner, whose technology will power the stadium almost entirely with solar energy. Dan Rogers, chief executive of the club’s new owner, HDM Worldwide Ltd, expressed his excitement about the project. He noted that despite having taken ownership only a few weeks prior, they were already making great strides toward a sustainable future. “We are committed to ensuring that cost does not become a barrier for local fans to attend matches,” Rogers said. He added that the club’s vision includes developing a strong football environment, creating new opportunities for the team, and giving back to its long-standing community. This solar project is just one part of HDM Worldwide’s broader plan, which also includes setting up a women’s football team and collaborating with local schools to provide training for young players.
EV Chargers and Sponsorship from Duracell Energy
In addition to the rooftop solar panels, Bridlington Town AFC has attracted significant sponsorship from Duracell Energy. This partnership includes the installation of new EV chargers, further benefiting the club and community by promoting eco-friendly transportation in the region. Rogers noted that while it’s unusual for a non-league football club to have a major solar and battery technology company as a kit sponsor, the partnership reflects the club’s ambition to lead the way in sustainability—both on and off the pitch.
Bridlington Town AFC’s rooftop solar project marks a significant step toward sustainability, benefiting the club and the community alike. With plans for local school support, a women’s team, and reduced ticket prices, the club is leading by example in both renewable energy and community engagement.
