East Yorkshire solar farm: Ampyr’s impressive 80MW deal

Ampyr Solar Europe (ASE) has significantly expanded its UK presence with the landmark acquisition of the East Yorkshire Solar Farm from its developer, BOOM Power. Announced in February 2026, the deal transfers ownership of one of the country’s most substantial renewable energy developments to ASE, marking a pivotal moment for the company’s growth and the UK’s green energy objectives.

The project’s scale is immense, solidifying its status as a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP). With a planned capacity exceeding 530 MWp, the solar farm received its Development Consent Order in May 2025 and is set to generate enough clean electricity to power an estimated 100,000 homes. Its strategic location allows for a grid connection via a substation near the Drax power station, promising a major injection of renewable power into the national grid and stimulating local job creation.

For Ampyr Solar Europe, this acquisition is a strategic triumph. Tarun Agrawal, CEO of ASE, described the deal as the largest to date for the company’s UK photovoltaic and battery storage portfolio. The East Yorkshire project is now a cornerstone of ASE’s 2.5 GW development pipeline in the United Kingdom, which is part of a formidable 7 GW pan-European portfolio spanning key markets like Germany and the Netherlands. This move reinforces ASE’s commitment to driving decarbonization and enhancing energy security across the continent.

Mark Hogan, the founder of BOOM Power, conveyed his support for the transition, expressing confidence that Ampyr Solar Europe is ideally positioned to bring this vital clean energy asset to fruition. The successful development and sale of the project to a major operator like ASE highlights a powerful model for advancing the large-scale renewable infrastructure needed to meet national climate targets.
