Eden Sustainable Accelerates Solar Rollout With £75 Million

UK solar developer Eden Sustainable has secured a major financial injection of up to £75 million from Bristol-based energy firm Thrive Renewables, creating a solar accelerator facility designed to fast-track the adoption of renewable energy across the country. This strategic partnership will significantly boost the deployment of private wire solar power purchase agreements (PPAs) for a wide range of organizations, including schools, businesses, and industrial clients.

The collaboration empowers Eden Sustainable to develop, construct, fund, and operate rooftop solar assets entirely in-house. This model offers a streamlined solution for customers, requiring no upfront capital and crucially bypassing potential grid connection constraints. With key operational hubs in Exeter and London, Eden is poised to deploy these on-site solar panel systems nationwide.

For Thrive Renewables, the investment aligns perfectly with its ambitious objective of doubling its generation capacity within the next five years. Matthew Clayton, Managing Director at Thrive, emphasized the partnership’s strategic importance. “Funding like this, in our opinion, has the potential to stimulate the industry and speed up the delivery of additional renewable energy generation at the rate and scale required to achieve net zero,” he stated, highlighting the shared values between the two companies as a key driver for the collaboration.

Scott Burrows, co-founder and director of Eden Sustainable, reflected on the company’s journey since its inception a decade ago with philanthropist Steve Baker. Their founding mission was to decarbonize building infrastructure in a way that benefits both energy users and investors. “Eden’s growth strategy is naturally evolving toward becoming a niche independent power producer, and this deal helps accelerate the deployment of commercial and industrial solar in support of the UK’s net zero commitments,” Burrows remarked. He expressed his excitement about advancing this mission alongside a partner like Thrive Renewables.

The complex transaction was guided by advisors at PKF Francis Clark, who handled financial modeling, investor outreach, and negotiations. Richard Harris, corporate finance director at PKF Francis Clark, commented on the challenging funding climate, noting that Thrive distinguished itself by taking a “long-term view on the opportunity with Eden.” He added that the strong ethical alignment between the firms was a decisive factor following a competitive market evaluation.

Together, this alliance is set to make a significant contribution to the UK’s renewable energy landscape by accelerating the rollout of commercial solar PV solutions across sectors such as logistics, healthcare, and education.
