In a decisive move signaling strong confidence in the region’s clean energy future, UK-based investment manager Foresight Group has announced its expansion into New Zealand. The entry is marked by the strategic acquisition of NZ Clean Energy (NZCE), a leading domestic developer of renewable energy projects. This transaction represents the inaugural New Zealand investment for Foresight’s flagship APAC energy transition fund, the Australian Renewables Income Fund (ARIF).

The deal provides ARIF with NZCE’s extensive portfolio, which includes a robust pipeline of approximately 300MW of late-stage solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. Foresight has confirmed that it anticipates total capital commitments will surpass A$500 million (approximately NZ$605 million). This substantial investment is earmarked to fund the development and construction of three key advanced solar projects, with work scheduled to commence in 2026 and proceed through 2027.
This acquisition is a cornerstone of ARIF’s strategy to cultivate a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets across multiple electricity markets. By expanding into New Zealand, Foresight not only achieves valuable geographic diversification but also significantly enhances its operational scale and capacity for renewable generation and storage throughout the Australia-New Zealand region.
