Foresight Group New Zealand: Stunning Acquisition in 2024

UK Investor Eyes Foresight Group New Zealand: Stunning Acquisition in 2024

In a decisive move signaling strong confidence in the region’s clean energy future, UK-based investment manager Foresight Group has announced its expansion into New Zealand. The entry is marked by the strategic acquisition of NZ Clean Energy (NZCE), a leading domestic developer of renewable energy projects. This transaction represents the inaugural New Zealand investment for Foresight’s flagship APAC energy transition fund, the Australian Renewables Income Fund (ARIF).

A Portfolio Primed for Growth Following Foresight Group New Zealand: Stunning Acquisition in 2024

The deal provides ARIF with NZCE’s extensive portfolio, which includes a robust pipeline of approximately 300MW of late-stage solar and battery energy storage (BESS) projects. Foresight has confirmed that it anticipates total capital commitments will surpass A$500 million (approximately NZ$605 million). This substantial investment is earmarked to fund the development and construction of three key advanced solar projects, with work scheduled to commence in 2026 and proceed through 2027.

This acquisition is a cornerstone of ARIF’s strategy to cultivate a diverse portfolio of renewable energy assets across multiple electricity markets. By expanding into New Zealand, Foresight not only achieves valuable geographic diversification but also significantly enhances its operational scale and capacity for renewable generation and storage throughout the Australia-New Zealand region.

Leadership Highlights Strategic Advantage After Foresight Group New Zealand: Stunning Acquisition in 2024

Executive leadership at Foresight views the acquisition as a pivotal step in their regional growth strategy. Daniel Beaver, Executive Director at Foresight and Portfolio Manager of ARIF, emphasized the favorable market conditions. “New Zealand has an exceptional renewable resource base and a supportive policy environment,” he stated. “By combining our capital and operational expertise with NZCE’s local knowledge, development expertise and project pipeline, we are well positioned to accelerate the delivery of new renewable energy capacity.”

Echoing this sentiment, Edward Lloyd, Foresight’s Head of Australia, spoke to the deal’s competitive impact. “This acquisition further strengthens Foresight’s position as a leading investor in the regional energy market, with the scale of our portfolio and our internal capabilities providing a meaningful competitive advantage,” Lloyd remarked. “We welcome aboard the NZCE team and are excited about delivering the significant pipeline they have created.” The partnership is set to merge international investment power with deep local expertise, positioning it to play a critical role in advancing New Zealand’s transition to a sustainable energy system.
