SolarDrone Junko Solar Acquisition: Unique Deal in 2024

VisionWave’s SolarDrone Leads Junko Solar Acquisition: Unique Deal in 2024

In a strategic maneuver aimed at capturing the growing solar Operations & Maintenance (O&M) market, VisionWave subsidiary SolarDrone has acquired a 51% controlling interest in maintenance specialist Junko Solar. The deal reflects a significant industry-wide pivot from development and installation towards ensuring the long-term efficiency and upkeep of maturing solar assets.

Deal Structure and Strategic Integration

The transaction, which values Junko Solar at $400,000, was finalized for a total consideration of $204,000, structured in three staged payments. This acquisition merges Junko Solar’s established panel cleaning and on-the-ground maintenance services into SolarDrone’s technology-driven platform, creating a comprehensive, one-stop service provider for solar asset owners. This move is part of a broader trend where major industry players are investing heavily in technology to optimize plant performance. For example, in 2025, Nextracker also expanded its O&M capabilities by acquiring firms specializing in AI and robotics for solar maintenance.

New Leadership to Drive Growth

To spearhead the integration and future growth, Junko Solar’s founder and controlling shareholder, Amos Cohen, will take the helm as CEO and Director of SolarDrone. His appointment ensures the retention of deep industry knowledge and is pivotal to combining the two companies’ strengths. Cohen is tasked with overseeing the seamless merger of operations and scaling the combined entity’s presence in the solar services sector.

VisionWave’s “Roll-Up” Strategy in a Tech-Driven Market

This acquisition is a calculated step in VisionWave’s ongoing “roll-up” strategy, which involves consolidating complementary businesses to build a dominant market force. By integrating Junko Solar, VisionWave not only expands its service portfolio but also enhances its competitive edge. The emphasis on technology like drones for inspection, a technology also noted in a JinkoSolar EU position paper, positions the newly expanded SolarDrone to effectively service large-scale solar projects. Further details on the transaction specifics were outlined in the official announcement, marking a key development for the company’s ambitious growth plans.
