Tenaris Solar Park Romania Powers Călărași Mill with Renewable Energy
Tenaris has launched a 20 MW solar park to provide green energy to its seamless pipe mill in Călărași, Romania. The solar park, which spans 38 hectares, is projected to generate around 30,000 MWh of electricity annually, meeting 25% of the plant’s electricity needs.
The project — valued at approximately $31 million — was implemented by Electrogrup, a Romanian construction company. This initiative is part of a broader strategy by Tenaris to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2030, aligning with global efforts to combat climate change by transitioning to renewable energy sources.
Michele Della Briotta, president of Tenaris Europe, highlighted the significance of the solar park as a crucial step toward achieving the company’s decarbonization targets. He also mentioned a series of ongoing and future projects aimed at reducing emissions and improving efficiency. “This project is a key milestone in our path to decarbonization. We have several other projects underway or in the pipeline to reduce emissions and increase efficiency,” said Briotta.
Tenaris Solar Park Romania Drives Decarbonization Efforts
The solar park is part of Tenaris’s broader commitment to sustainability and decarbonization. Other initiatives include using 100% renewable energy at Dalmine, Italy — where the company also has a 34 MW solar park — and a 50 MW solar park at its mill in Conroe, Texas.
In addition to these projects, Tenaris is exploring the use of hydrogen in its manufacturing processes, with a pilot project for hydrogen combustion in the rolling mill burners at its plant in Dalmine. The company is also developing a carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at its seamless pipe mill in Argentina.
The Călărași solar park is a significant milestone in Tenaris’s journey toward decarbonization. The project not only reduces the company’s carbon footprint but also demonstrates its commitment to sustainable energy practices.
The solar park is a testament to Tenaris’s dedication to reducing its environmental impact. By investing in renewable energy, Tenaris is positioning itself as a leader in sustainability within the steel manufacturing industry.
