Italgam’s New Rooftop Solar Panels Prevent Bird Pollution

Italgam Srl developed the EVO 2.0 brush to protect rooftop solar panels from pigeon nests that can reduce efficiency and cause significant damage. This innovative solution fits between the panels and the roof, keeping the system operating safely and effectively.

The EVO 2.0 Brush: A Simple yet Effective Solution

With the growing popularity of rooftop solar panels comes the challenge of protecting them from birds. Pigeons, in particular, tend to nest under the panels, leading to reduced efficiency and potential system damage. To solve this problem, the Italian startup Italgam Srl created the EVO 2.0, a practical and effective anti-bird brush for solar panels.

The EVO 2.0 brush is designed to fit between solar panels and the roof, creating a barrier that prevents birds from getting underneath. This simple placement is crucial for stopping the buildup of nesting debris.

This debris can cause panels to overheat and reduce their efficiency by up to 30%. In extreme cases, the accumulation can even lead to short circuits and fires, posing a serious safety risk.

The brush is built to last. It features a low-carbon stainless steel wire to resist corrosion and polypropylene bristles treated with an anti-UV agent to prevent crystallization. These materials ensure the brush remains effective for years, even when exposed to harsh sunlight.

Inspiration and Development

The inspiration for the EVO 2.0 brush came from an unexpected source. Italgam’s CEO, Maurizio Chiacchierini, first encountered a similar product while in British Columbia, Canada. He saw a brush being used for gutter cleaning and realized the same concept could be applied to solar panels to prevent bird infestations.

Solar panel installation with protection

Chiacchierini began developing the product after a solar installer asked if the concept could be adapted to stop pigeons from nesting under panels. He accepted the challenge, ultimately creating and patenting the EVO 2.0 brush. Bird prevention has since become a vital part of Italgam’s business, accounting for about 90% of its production. The EVO 2.0 brush is now a trusted tool for over 1,300 solar companies worldwide.

How the EVO 2.0 Brush Works

The EVO 2.0 brush is designed with knurled bristles that provide a firm grip, ensuring it stays securely in place. Its staggered bristle design also promotes better airflow and rainwater drainage, which is essential for preventing panels from overheating and allowing water to flow freely to avoid potential damage.

One of the brush’s key advantages is its adaptability. It can be used on any type of roof, including corrugated sheet metal, making it a versatile solution for a wide range of solar installations.

As more homeowners and businesses invest in rooftop solar, protecting these systems is more important than ever. The EVO 2.0 brush offers a simple yet effective way for owners to safeguard their investment and ensure their panels operate at peak efficiency.
