The 142-megawatt (MW) Appaloosa solar project will be installed in Garfield County, Washington, co-located with PSE’s existing Lower Snake River Wind facility. The project will leverage the wind farm’s interconnection infrastructure, a novel strategy to overcome a common hurdle for clean energy initiatives.

This will be the first project in the state to use a wind facility’s existing interconnection infrastructure, delivering additional renewable energy to the grid. Once operational, the solar project is expected to generate enough electricity to power more than 30,000 homes annually.

PSE Collaborates with Qcells for Sustainable Supply Chain

As part of a comprehensive turnkey solution, Qcells will supply U.S.-manufactured solar panels, manage project development, and provide engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services.

PSE is dedicated to investing in renewable projects to comply with Washington state’s clean energy regulations and achieve carbon neutrality by 2030. Qcells aims to establish a robust solar supply chain in the U.S. by producing sustainably made modules with domestic materials.

“We are excited to work with Qcells on the Appaloosa solar project at our existing Lower Snake River wind farm,” said Ron Roberts, Senior Vice President of Energy Resources. “This project will help us provide clean, reliable utility-scale solar energy to our customers while advancing our efforts to meet Washington state’s ambitious clean energy goals.”

“This groundbreaking solar project, in collaboration with an existing wind farm, represents a significant step toward a more sustainable and resilient grid,” said IP Kim, President of Qcells USA Corp. “Co-located wind and solar projects like this maximize the efficiency of interconnection resources, ultimately delivering clean energy to thousands of homes.”

Qcells Partners with PSE to Boost Renewable Capacity

As part of the clean energy transition, Qcells remains committed to collaborating with energy producers in the U.S. Since 2019, PSE has increased its renewable capacity by over 1,000 MW. With a comprehensive U.S. solar supply chain and all-in-one energy solutions, Qcells is well-positioned to help companies like PSE meet their goals.

Qcells USA offers comprehensive, utility-scale turnkey solutions that cover the entire project lifecycle. These services include module production, solar and energy storage project development, and Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) for the U.S. market.

With a proven track record that includes 8.4 GW in sustainably produced module manufacturing capabilities in Georgia and nearly 2 GW of developed, constructed, and operational projects, Qcells USA is a reliable partner throughout every stage of the project lifecycle.

As a flagship company of Hanwha Group, a FORTUNE Global 500 company and one of the top seven business enterprises in South Korea, Qcells USA is a leading force in the industry.
