Peak Energy Inc. has begun construction on a 65 MWp solar power plant in Barangays Palina and Camingawan, Sagay City, Negros Occidental, marking a significant development in the Philippines’ renewable energy sector.
Philippines Solar Plant to Supply 100 GWh Annually
Officially named the “Peak Energy Sagay Solar Power Plant,” the project is a partnership with the local government of Sagay City and the barangays of Palina and Camingawan. The plant is expected to generate over 100 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity annually—enough to power approximately 50,000 households.
This significant output will help the Philippines meet its ambitious renewable energy targets for a 50% share by 2040, as highlighted by PVKnowhow. According to the Manila Bulletin, this project marks a key step in Peak Energy’s goal of developing 240 MW of solar capacity in Negros Occidental. It also aligns with larger national initiatives like the 3.5 GW Terra Solar Project, reported by PVKnowhow, reinforcing the country’s commitment to clean energy expansion.
Powering the Visayas Region and Local Communities
The energy generated by the solar plant will be fed into the national grid, supplying renewable power to the Visayas region. The project is also expected to benefit local communities significantly by providing a source of clean and affordable electricity.
