The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) is financing the installation of a photovoltaic solar system in Honduras, which is expected to generate 9.2 GWh of clean energy annually. For instance, CABEI approved financing of US$165 million to modernize Honduras’ electricity grid, aiming to improve service quality for over two million people. This complements their support, alongside the EU and the German government, for studies to implement the “Aguas Calientes” solar photovoltaic project, set to benefit over 35,000 Hondurans. Furthermore, CABEI and the Republic of China (Taiwan) are jointly promoting initiatives to develop the energy sector in Honduras, showcasing a collaborative approach to sustainable development.
This particular project, financed through the CAMBio II program, channels approximately US$498,942.68 via the Covelo Foundation to a micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise (MSME) operating in the sustainable forestry sector. The goal is to install a grid-connected photovoltaic solar system that will not only generate clean energy but also reduce energy costs for the MSME, promoting sustainable practices within their operations.
