SINEXCEL Supports 7.5MW/15MWh Battery Energy Storage Project in Romania

In a significant move to bolster Europe’s energy infrastructure, SINEXCEL is supporting the deployment of a 7.5MW/15.04MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Curtea de ArgeÈ™, Romania. Enhancing Grid Flexibility Through Price Arbitrage in Romania battery storage

The primary objective of this state-of-the-art facility is to engage in price arbitrage. This strategy involves charging the batteries when electricity prices are low—typically during periods of high renewable energy generation—and discharging the stored energy back into the grid when demand and prices are high.

By doing so, the project not only optimizes energy trading but also provides crucial services to the grid. It enhances responsiveness to fluctuations in supply and demand, improves overall operational efficiency, and supports a more flexible, market-oriented approach to energy management. The project is built around SINEXCEL’s advanced 1250kW Power Conversion Systems (PCS). These systems are the core technology responsible for the bidirectional flow of energy, converting DC power from the batteries to AC power for the grid and back again with maximum efficiency.

A key advantage of SINEXCEL’s solution is its scalable and flexible architecture. The PCS units can be integrated into various medium-voltage station configurations to meet diverse project requirements, including:

  • 20ft MV station: 2.5MW/3.15MW
  • 40ft MV station: 5MW/6.25MW
  • 40ft MV station: up to 9.45MW/10MW

This modular design simplifies the installation process, reduces lifecycle costs, and allows developers to efficiently scale capacity as needed, making it an ideal solution for large-scale energy projects.

Project Development and Timeline for Romania battery storage

The project was developed by Energy Solar NRG SRL and successfully secured non-recourse financing from DHB Bank in February 2025. The facility is on track for full commissioning and grid connection by September 30, 2026.
