Merus Power to Supply Battery Storage Units to Latvia

In a significant development for the Baltic energy landscape, Finland-based system integrator Merus Power has secured a contract to supply two large-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) for projects in Latvia. This move marks Merus Power’s inaugural project in the country and signals a major step forward in Latvia’s efforts to modernize its electricity grid.

The Landmark Latvia Battery Storage Agreement

The deal will see Merus Power deliver two 20MW/40MWh BESS units to the contractor Nordes BÅ«ve. These systems are destined for projects owned by Latvenergo, Latvia’s state-owned utility, underscoring a national commitment to enhancing grid stability and energy security.

The total value of the contract with Nordes BÅ«ve is approximately €22.5 million (US$26 million). Merus Power’s scope, which encompasses the delivery of the advanced BESS equipment and multi-year lifecycle services, is valued at between €13 million and €15 million, depending on the final options exercised. This comprehensive service package ensures the long-term performance and reliability of these critical grid assets.
