This subsidy is designed to cover up to 40% of eligible installation costs. The impact is substantial, drastically shortening the typical payback period for a solar investment from a lengthy 25-30 years to a much more manageable 10-12 years. For context, a typical residential system may cost between CAD 5,000 and CAD 6,000, while commercial installations average around CAD 45,000. This grant represents a significant reduction in those initial expenses.

For Residential Customers
Homeowners interested in taking advantage of this grant must apply through the LogiVert Efficient Homes Program. It is important to note that this applies to installations completed after June 30, 2025. A key prerequisite for eligibility is receiving grid connection approval from Hydro-Québec before proceeding.
For Commercial Customers
Businesses looking to install solar panels can apply through the Efficient Solutions Program. They will need to use the OSE (Optimisation du Système Énergétique) calculation tool to process their application. This part of the program is for projects implemented after March 31, 2026, and systems must meet specific technical criteria to qualify.
Beyond the Grant: Net Metering and Increased Capacity
The financial benefits don’t stop with the installation grant. The program is complemented by an enhanced net metering policy. This allows solar panel owners to export any surplus electricity they generate back to the grid in exchange for credits on their utility bills.
Furthermore, Hydro-Québec has significantly increased the maximum capacity for self-generation. The limit has been raised from 50 kW to 1 megawatt (MW), opening the door for larger commercial and industrial operations to invest in substantial solar projects and achieve greater energy independence.
