Examining the Rise in Nigeria solar imports
Nigeria’s solar imports surged by 519% in March 2026 compared with February, reaching a total of 1.2 GW. The spike was part of a broader jump in Chinese solar exports, which saw 50 countries setting all-time records for solar imports that month.
African demand for solar energy was particularly strong, with Ethiopia also reporting significant increases, importing 1.1 GW, up 391% from February.
