Solar energy Portugal Becomes Leading Source of Electricity in July

Solar photovoltaic power became Portugal’s leading source of electricity in July for the first time, according to monthly data from the grid operator REN. The solar sector contributed 19% of the national electricity consumption in July, surpassing hydroelectric generation, which accounted for 16% and wind energy at 13%.

In total, renewables supplied 53% of electricity demand in the country during that month. Non-renewable sources provided 13%, while 34% of electricity generation came from imports.
