Tunisia solar projects allocate 455 MW in solar PV projects
Tunisia’s Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy has allocated 455 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity in its sixth authorization round, approving a total of 309 projects. The government initially sought to license only 200 MW, indicating that the round was heavily oversubscribed.
The approved projects consist of 187 individual projects with a capacity of 1 MW each, 119 projects with a capacity of 2 MW each, and three larger projects of 10 MW each.
The selected independent power producers are set to sell electricity to the Société Tunisienne de l’Électricité et du Gaz (STEG), which is the state-owned grid operator in Tunisia. These agreements will be based on long-term power purchase contracts.
This allocation reflects Tunisia’s ongoing efforts to enhance its renewable energy capacity and diversify its energy sources. Recently, other countries in the region, such as Egypt and Morocco, have also ramped up investments in solar energy.
