New Afghanistan Solar Energy Agreement
Afghanistan’s state power utility, Da Afghanistan Breshna Sherkat (DABS), and Azizi Energy Investment Company have signed an agreement to initiate five power-generation projects, which include generating 330 megawatts of solar energy. The deal also encompasses 515 megawatts of coal-fired thermal power, resulting in a combined planned capacity of 845 megawatts.
The introduction of these projects aims to expand domestic electricity generation and reduce Afghanistan’s reliance on imported power.
Background on Afghanistan Solar Energy Projects
These initiatives reflect an ongoing effort within Afghanistan to improve its energy infrastructure. The projects are expected to play a significant role in advancing the country’s electricity goals.
Future Implications of Afghanistan Solar Energy
The execution of these projects demonstrates a strategic direction towards increasing energy independence. This is particularly critical as Afghanistan has been working on ways to enhance its self-sufficiency in energy production.
