Yellow Door Energy, the leading provider of sustainable energy for businesses in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, has announced the construction of a significant solar project in Qatar. This adds to the growing solar capacity in the Middle East, a region experiencing rapid growth in renewable energy adoption, as highlighted by the burgeoning solar landscape in the UAE, detailed in this report on United Arab Emirates Solar Panel Manufacturing.
Solar Project in Qatar: Agreement with Gulf Warehousing Company
Yellow Door Energy has signed a landmark solar power purchase agreement (PPA) with Gulf Warehousing Company (GWC), Qatar’s leading logistics and supply chain solutions provider. Under this agreement, a 5-megawatt (MW) solar plant will be installed at GWC’s Logistics Village Qatar (LVQ) facility.
The solar plant is expected to generate 8,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of clean energy in its first year of operation, reducing carbon emissions by an estimated 3,500 tonnes annually. This contributes to both companies’ sustainability targets and supports Qatar’s broader clean energy goals.
Yellow Door Energy to Manage Solar Project in Qatar
Yellow Door Energy will fully invest in, build, and manage the solar project throughout the contract period. This PPA model allows GWC to access clean energy and achieve cost savings without upfront capital expenditure or operational complexities. This approach minimizes financial risks for GWC while enabling them to focus on their core logistics business.
The solar plant is anticipated to be operational by 2025, pending connection to the national grid after receiving approval from the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA).
“We are delighted to partner with GWC, a leading Qatari company committed to sustainability and innovation. This solar project marks Yellow Door Energy’s first in Qatar and will contribute to the country’s sustainable development goals. We look forward to providing GWC with affordable and reliable clean energy for decades,” said Rory McCarthy, Chief Commercial Officer of Yellow Door Energy.
GWC’s Commitment to Sustainability with Solar Project in Qatar
This agreement with Yellow Door Energy reinforces GWC’s commitment to environmental stewardship, aligning with the environmental development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 and supporting the nation’s transition to a more sustainable energy mix.
“GWC is proud to be a leader in sustainability, and this partnership with Yellow Door Energy is yet another milestone in our journey towards a greener future. This solar project will not only reduce our carbon footprint but also provide us with cost-effective energy solutions, allowing us to remain competitive while meeting our environmental responsibilities,” said Ranjeev Menon, Group CEO of GWC.
Yellow Door Energy boasts a portfolio of over 200 MW of solar projects across the Middle East and Africa, solidifying its position as a strategic partner for leading businesses in diverse sectors seeking sustainable energy solutions.
