AIC renewable energy: Unique Freetown Office Planned for 2024

AIC Renewable Energy Plans Freetown Office as Part of West Africa Expansion

Gambian-Turkish firm AIC Renewable Energy is deepening its commitment to West Africa’s clean energy transition with the announcement of a new branch office in Freetown, Sierra Leone. This strategic move is a central component of the company’s broader regional growth initiative, aimed at addressing the increasing demand for sustainable power solutions. The office, along with a parallel branch in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, is scheduled to open in 2026.

Anchoring Growth with AIC renewable energy: Unique Freetown Office Planned for 2024

The expansion into Sierra Leone is underpinned by a major infrastructure project already in motion. The new Freetown office will provide local support for the significant expansion of the solar farm at the country’s main airport. Under the leadership of Head of Engineering Peter Weißenpferd, AIC is set to more than quadruple the airport’s solar capacity from 1 MW to 4.6 MW. A crucial element of this upgrade is the integration of a 20 MWh battery storage system to ensure power stability and reliability. This ambitious initiative involves a collaboration between Turkish, German, and local partners, highlighting a successful model for international cooperation in sustainable development.

A Coordinated Regional Strategy

AIC’s establishment of a physical presence in Freetown is part of a coordinated two-pronged expansion in the region. The company’s plans, as confirmed by reports, include opening another office in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, within the same timeframe. This dual launch demonstrates a deliberate strategy to embed the company within key West African markets, allowing it to more effectively serve local needs and contribute to national energy goals.

Further cementing its regional footprint, AIC has also submitted a proposal for another major airport project in Guinea-Bissau. The plan for Osvaldo Vieira International Airport includes a 3.6 MW solar plant complemented by a 12 MWh storage system, also targeted for a 2026 implementation.

Vision for a Sustainable Future

Managing Director Dennis Elverir emphasized the company’s dedication to this regional mission, expressing pride in advancing renewable energy solutions from AIC’s home base in The Gambia. This strategic growth represents more than a business expansion; it is an investment in building a lasting, sustainable energy legacy across West Africa.

While specific operational details for the Freetown office remain forthcoming, the announcement itself signifies strong investor confidence in Sierra Leone. AIC Renewable Energy’s move heralds a promising new phase for the nation as it progressively embraces a cleaner and more resilient power infrastructure.
