Ambuja Cements has commissioned a 200 MW solar project in Khavda, a key milestone in its 1 GW renewable energy initiative under the Adani Portfolio.
This project is expected to cut power costs by an impressive 70% and significantly boost the company’s EBITDA.
Ambitious Renewable Energy Goals
The solar project is a vital part of Ambuja Cements’ broader 1 GW renewable energy initiative. Mr. Ajay Kapur, CEO – Cement Business, Adani Group, emphasized the company’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050. He stated that by fiscal year 2028, green power sources will meet 60% of the company’s energy needs, a goal that aligns with its sustainability vision and cost-reduction strategy.
The company received standing clearance for the 200 MW solar project from the Western Regional Load Dispatch Centre (WRLDC), effective December 12, 2024. This approval accelerates Ambuja Cements’ Rs. 10,000 Cr investment in renewable energy, which includes solar and wind power, as well as 376 MW of Waste Heat Recovery Systems (WHRS).
Future Expansion Plans
The company also plans to commission an additional 156 MW of wind power from Khavda. Another 300 MW solar project in Rajasthan is set to become operational by March 2025, with the final 350 MW of solar capacity expected by June 2025. These projects are crucial for advancing Ambuja Cements’ commitment to sustainability.
