Avantus Partners with APS for 100-MWAC Kitt Solar Project

Avantus has signed a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS) for the Kitt Solar Project in Eloy, Arizona. The project will have a 100 MWac/130 MWdc solar capacity and 400 MWh of energy storage to bolster grid stability with clean energy.

Expanding Clean Energy and Grid Resilience

The Kitt Solar Project will help meet Arizona’s growing energy demand by generating clean electricity, reducing reliance on fossil fuels, and providing storage solutions to manage peak energy demand.

Cliff Graham, Avantus Chief Executive Officer, highlighted: “The Kitt Solar Project will not only deliver clean solar energy and offset carbon emissions but will provide much-needed energy storage capacity to meet rising demand and create a more resilient grid in Arizona.”

The Kitt Solar Project will create up to 400 construction jobs and generate local tax revenue for schools, public safety, and infrastructure, contributing to the local economy over its operational life.

Once operational, the project will power up to 32,000 Arizona homes and offset 200,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually—the equivalent of removing 45,000 cars from the road each year.

APS Director of Resource Acquisition Derek Seaman said Arizona’s peak energy demand will grow in the coming years. He noted that the Kitt Solar Project will provide cost-competitive and clean electricity, while its energy storage capacity will improve grid reliability during high-demand periods.

Avantus’ Expanding Solar Portfolio

Avantus has a large pipeline of solar and storage projects across the U.S., with a portfolio that includes 30 GW of solar and 94 GWh of energy storage. The company has made significant progress in Arizona’s renewable energy market. This agreement follows the recent sale of the Catclaw Solar and Energy Storage Project in Maricopa County. For that project, Avantus also negotiated a PPA that will deliver clean energy to Arizona Public Service (APS).

The Future of Solar Energy in Arizona

The combination of solar power and energy storage is essential for Arizona’s energy future. Projects like Kitt will help meet rising demand and reduce the impact of extreme weather. The state will benefit from cleaner, more stable energy solutions.

Avantus continues to drive innovation in solar energy. The Kitt Solar Project represents a major step toward a sustainable future. The company remains committed to expanding access to clean, low-cost power.
