Sungrow to Supply Battery Storage Albania for Project Blue
Sungrow has secured a contract to supply a 130 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) for Project Blue, Albania’s largest privately developed solar park. The agreement encompasses 26 PowerTitan 2.0 battery units and 13 MVS3460-LS units, designed to enhance grid flexibility and facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources.
Project Blue, located in Fier, western Albania, boasts a capacity of 185 MWp and is a collaborative development by Matrix Konstruksion and Blessed Investment Group. The project is notable for operating without government subsidies, which marks it as an independent venture in Albania’s renewable energy landscape.
The developers of Project Blue have already outlined plans for future expansion, which include adding 164 MWp of solar capacity and an 80 MW / 180 MWh battery system in subsequent phases.
Technology Overview of Battery Storage Albania
The liquid-cooled BESS from Sungrow aims to improve operational efficiency by storing excess power generated during peak sunlight hours, thereby supplying power during non-peak times. This aligns with global trends toward augmenting solar energy systems with storage solutions, which can stabilize grid supply and enhance reliability.
Market Context for Battery Storage Albania
Albania has been progressively advancing its renewable energy portfolio. The inclusion of large-scale battery storage systems is a strategic move as the nation seeks to harness more solar energy in its electricity generation mix. Sungrow’s involvement highlights the growing importance of battery solutions in the renewable sector.
Future Plans for Battery Storage Albania in Project Blue
As Project Blue prepares for its next phase, the additional solar capacity and the new battery system will potentially double its current output, thus contributing significantly to Albania’s energy landscape and possibly setting a precedent for future energy projects in the region.
