CEEC EPC Contract: First Major Project in Azerbaijan
The China Energy Engineering Corporation (CEEC) has been awarded a major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) for its solar projects in Azerbaijan. This collaboration involves two significant solar power developments: a 230 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in the Garadagh region and a 1 GW solar PV complex in the Karabakh region. This marks CEEC’s first EPC contract in Azerbaijan.
The 230 MW Garadagh Solar PV Plant, owned by Masdar, is expected to supply approximately 500 million kWh of clean electricity annually. The project is anticipated to offset 200,000 tons of carbon emissions each year and provide power to 110,000 households in the region. This initiative is an integral part of Azerbaijan’s commitment to bolster its renewable energy capacity, which you can read more about in the context of Masdar and SOCAR’s green initiatives.
Masdar has also signed an EPC contract with CEEC for the 1 GW Karabakh Solar PV Complex. This ambitious project aims to generate about 1.5 billion kWh of clean electricity annually, helping offset 600,000 tons of carbon emissions each year.
CEEC EPC Contract and Masdar’s Renewable Energy Expansion
CEEC has been actively involved in several of Masdar’s projects, including the 230 MW Garadagh solar PV plant. The company has also contributed to the 497 MW Fujeirah F3 independent power plant (IPP) and the 1.2 GW Al-Dhafra IPP. In 2022, CEEC secured the EPC contract for a 2 GW solar PV plant in Uzbekistan, which also included a 500 MWh battery energy storage system.
Meanwhile, Masdar has signed several agreements with Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy, which include a 1 GW solar PV plant in the Alat region, a 1 GW onshore wind farm in the Absheron and Khizi regions, and a 2 GW offshore wind farm in the Khizi and Khachmaz regions, complete with a 500 MWh battery energy storage system.
Masdar’s Green Energy Vision and CEEC EPC Contract in Azerbaijan
The partnership between Masdar and CEEC marks a significant step toward reducing Azerbaijan’s carbon emissions and enhancing its energy security. Masdar is a state-owned renewable energy company based in the United Arab Emirates. Renowned for its leadership in the renewable energy sector for over a decade, Masdar has established projects in more than 30 countries.
Masdar’s venture into Azerbaijan’s renewable energy market is part of a broader strategy to expand its global footprint. The partnership with CEEC is a milestone, establishing Masdar’s presence in Azerbaijan and fortifying its position as a leading player in the global renewable energy sector.
These projects are expected to make a significant impact on Azerbaijan’s energy sector, reducing the country’s reliance on fossil fuels and contributing to its environmental goals. The Garadagh and Karabakh solar PV plants are among the largest renewable energy projects in the region, and their successful implementation could pave the way for more green energy initiatives in Azerbaijan.
Global Renewable Energy Growth with CEEC EPC Contract
Globally, Masdar is involved in various renewable energy projects. The company has signed agreements to develop a 10 GW renewable energy project in Uzbekistan, incorporating solar, wind, and green hydrogen projects. In Kazakhstan, Masdar has partnered with Samruk Kazyna, the country’s sovereign wealth fund, to develop 1 GW of solar and wind projects, with the potential to further develop an additional 1 GW in the future.
In addition to its projects in Central Asia, Masdar is also involved in the development of 2 GW of solar and wind projects in Azerbaijan, part of a broader effort to increase the country’s renewable energy capacity and reduce its carbon footprint.
Masdar’s partnership with CEEC is a crucial step toward achieving these goals, demonstrating the company’s commitment to expanding its global presence and contributing to the global transition to renewable energy.
