Delhi Solar Policy 2024 New Portal for Rooftop Solar Installation

The Delhi government has launched a new, streamlined digital portal to accelerate the adoption of rooftop solar energy under its ambitious Delhi Solar Policy 2024. This initiative introduces a comprehensive single-window system designed to simplify the entire process for residents, from application to subsidy disbursal, marking a significant push towards the city’s renewable energy goals.

A Digital Gateway with Delhi Solar Policy 2024 New Portal for Rooftop Solar Installation

Central to the new policy is the Delhi Solar Portal, a one-stop platform that eliminates bureaucratic hurdles and lengthy wait times. Previously, residents could wait several months for approvals; the new system aims to reduce this to just a few weeks. The portal facilitates registration, applications for net metering, and access to both state and national subsidies. It features a solar calculator for estimating savings and payback periods, alongside a list of empanelled vendors, empowering consumers to make informed decisions without needing to visit distribution company (discom) offices.

Stacked Incentives and Financial Benefits under Delhi Solar Policy 2024 New Portal for Rooftop Solar Installation

The Solar Policy offers a robust financial incentive structure to make installing a solar panel system more appealing. The state government provides a capital subsidy of ₹2,000 per kW, capped at ₹10,000 per residential consumer. This is supplemented by Generation-Based Incentives (GBI) for surplus energy fed back to the grid. Perhaps the most compelling feature is that households consuming over 400 units of electricity per month can achieve a zero electricity bill upon installation. These state benefits are designed to work alongside national schemes like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli, further reducing the upfront costs for citizens.

Driving Towards a Sustainable Future with Delhi Solar Policy 2024 New Portal for Rooftop Solar Installation

With this policy, Delhi aims to install 750 MW of rooftop solar capacity by March 2027. While the city currently has an installed capacity of around 165 MW, it holds an estimated potential of 2 GW from rooftop installations alone. By combining a simplified digital process with strong financial incentives, the Delhi Solar Policy 2024 is poised to unlock this potential. The widespread adoption of solar energy will not only lead to significant cost savings for consumers but also deliver crucial environmental benefits, including reduced greenhouse gas emissions, decreased dependence on fossil fuels, and improved air quality for the national capital.
