Emeren Group has signed a seven-year solar PPA for a 15MW project in Poland, marking a key milestone in its European renewable energy expansion. The project is set to generate 14,958 MWh of renewable energy annually, helping Poland meet its climate goals by reducing carbon emissions and its reliance on coal.
A Key Step in Poland’s Energy Transition
Emeren Group—a prominent US-based solar project developer—has signed a significant seven-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) for a 15MW solar project in Poland, advancing its expansion into Europe’s renewable energy market. Signed with the Polish subsidiary of an unnamed multinational consumer goods company, the PPA stipulates that the energy generated at the solar farm will be sold on a pay-as-produced basis.
Located in Poland’s southwestern Silesia region—an area increasingly becoming a focal point for renewables—the solar facility is set to generate approximately 14,958 MWh of energy annually. This initiative will not only reduce Poland’s reliance on coal-fired power but is also expected to mitigate around 16,150 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year, making a significant contribution to the country’s climate goals and global decarbonization efforts.
This agreement highlights Emeren Group’s commitment to supporting Poland’s energy transition. With a grid that has traditionally relied on coal and contributed to high carbon emissions, the country stands to benefit as this 15MW solar farm helps diversify the national energy mix and provide a cleaner, more sustainable solution. By supplying power directly to the grid, the project will also enhance local energy security.
Poland’s energy challenges are well-documented. Between 2015 and 2021, grid operators rejected nearly 6,000 renewable energy projects with a combined capacity of about 30GW, creating a major bottleneck in the country’s grid system. Consequently, many projects have been delayed, and developers continue to face challenges connecting to the grid.
Local Economic and Environmental Impact
Beyond its contribution to clean energy, the 15MW solar project also brings notable economic benefits to the Silesia region. Its construction phase created jobs for 80 workers, including many from the local Ukrainian community, which aligns with Emeren Group’s broader strategy to support local economies wherever it operates.
In addition to construction jobs, the solar farm’s ongoing operation will create 10 permanent positions in operations and maintenance. The project will also generate substantial economic benefits through an estimated 90,000 PLN in annual property taxes and 167,000 PLN in land taxes.
This 15MW solar project is part of Emeren Group’s larger expansion in Poland, where it now has a total capacity of 30.6MW. The company is well-positioned to increase its presence in the Polish market and is looking to expand its portfolio with both solar and co-located storage facilities—a promising solution to the country’s grid challenges.
Poland’s energy grid struggles to connect renewable energy projects, and grid curtailments could reach 11% of total electricity production by the end of the decade. To address these challenges, Emeren Group is focusing on co-located storage projects, such as batteries, to improve grid stability.
A Strategic Focus on Renewable Energy and Solar PPA
Yumin Liu, CEO of Emeren Group, commented on the agreement’s significance. “The successful signing of a 7-year PPA demonstrates our ability to execute on critical aspects of our renewable energy strategy in key markets,” Liu said.
“These achievements reflect our commitment to delivering projects that drive environmental progress and create lasting value for communities. This project not only supports Poland’s energy transition, but it also strengthens the local economy and showcases our ability to deliver impactful renewable energy projects on a global scale.”
Emeren Group’s seven-year PPA for its 15MW solar project in Poland represents a significant step forward, supporting global decarbonization efforts while delivering local economic benefits. The company aims to continue its expansion in Poland and across Europe, focusing on renewable energy growth through strategic partnerships.
