Enel Colombia, through its Enel Green Power division, has begun operating the 150 MWac La Loma and 90 MWac Fundación solar plants in the César and Magdalena departments, after successfully completing all required technical and regulatory assessments.
La Loma Solar: 150 MW Capacity for Colombia
Inaugurated in February of this year, La Loma has an effective net capacity of 150 MW. The solar plant spans 387 hectares and is equipped with 400,000 panels capable of generating approximately 420 GWh annually.

Solar farm in Colombia, capable of generating approximately 420 GWh annually.
This output is enough to power around 600,000 people—equivalent to the population of a city like Bucaramanga—making it the largest centrally dispatched solar farm in Colombia, according to Enel.
During its construction, the project employed 1,720 people, with at least 77% of those jobs filled by local residents.
Fundación Solar Park: 90 MW Capacity Powers Magdalena
Located in the municipality of Pivijay, Magdalena, the Fundación Solar Park features more than 244,000 bifacial panels of 540 Wp each, installed across a 237-hectare site divided into 18 subfields. The plant began commercial operations in August 2023 and has an effective net capacity of 90 MW, allowing it to supply the country with 267 GWh annually. Its official inauguration is scheduled for the coming weeks.
Construction began last August after the project secured one of 11 contracts awarded in the Ministry of Mines and Energy’s third long-term contract auction in October 2021. The project requires an estimated investment of approximately $109 million.
Enel’s Solar Farms Boost Colombia’s Renewable Energy
La Loma, Fundación Solar Park, and El Paso—all owned by Enel—are among the six centrally dispatched solar projects now operational in Colombia, with the El Paso facility reaching an installed capacity of 99.5 MWdc as of last April.
As of 2024, the solar parks operated by Enel (El Paso, La Loma, Fundación, and Guayepo I&II) together account for over 34% of Colombia’s total solar energy production within the national grid, highlighting the company’s commitment to diversifying the country’s energy mix and ensuring its reliability.
The successful launch of the La Loma and Fundación solar plants marks a transformative step for sustainable energy in Colombia. With their substantial capacity and output, these projects not only bolster the nation’s energy security but also demonstrate Enel’s commitment to sustainable development and community involvement.
As Colombia continues to expand its renewable energy infrastructure, projects like La Loma and Fundación Solar Park serve as benchmarks for future growth, driving the country toward a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
