GID and Greenskies Complete 130 kW Solar System in San Jose

In a move to enhance energy resilience and sustainability in downtown San Jose, California, real estate developer GID has partnered with Greenskies Clean Focus to complete a new 130 kW rooftop solar installation. The system is now operational atop the Pavona Apartments, marking a significant step in deploying clean energy to address the state’s power challenges.

Announced on August 6, 2024, the project consists of 320 high-efficiency solar modules. This rooftop solar array is projected to generate over 180,000 kWh of clean electricity annually. This output is sufficient to power the equivalent of 25 local homes, providing a reliable source of low-cost renewable energy while reducing the carbon footprint of the residential complex.

The project was structured under a 25-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA), which allowed GID to install the system with no upfront capital costs. Under the agreement, Greenskies financed the project and will serve as the long-term owner and operator, managing all maintenance and ensuring optimal performance and efficiency for the life of the system.

Stanley Chin, President and CEO of Greenskies, commented on the partnership’s success, stating, “It’s been a pleasure working with GID to see this project through. Distributed generation solar provides a great opportunity for commercial property owners to realise additional value from their existing portfolio through significant energy cost savings and reduced carbon emissions.”

For GID, the initiative aligns with its core commitment to integrating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across its portfolio. The company actively seeks opportunities to improve the communities where it operates through sustainable development and management practices.

“At GID we continue to value opportunities that support both our fiduciary responsibility and uphold our long-term environmental sustainability commitments,” said Phil Carmody, SVP and Head of ESG at GID. “We’re thrilled to have partnered with Greenskies to increase our renewable energy production and are looking forward to measuring the impact going forward.”

Greenskies Clean Focus is a prominent national leader in renewable energy. The company provides comprehensive decarbonization solutions, including the development, construction, financing, ownership, and operation of solar, battery storage, and microgrid projects. Since 2009, Greenskies has developed 320 MW of renewable energy across more than 600 sites in 19 states and has been recognized by Solar Power World as a top commercial solar developer in the U.S.
