Canadian Solar Indiana Begins Trial Production at 2.1 GW Facility

Canadian Solar has commenced trial production at its flagship heterojunction technology (HJT) solar cell factory in Jeffersonville, Indiana, marking a key milestone for U.S. domestic manufacturing. Commercial operation at the facility is targeted to begin in July 2026, approximately two months from the start of trial production.

The factory’s Phase I has a nameplate capacity of 2.1 GWp and is expected to become one of the first commercial-scale HJT solar cell facilities in the U.S. Trial production for Phase I began in April 2026. Additionally, Phase II is expected to start trial production at the beginning of 2027, adding 4.2 GWp of capacity, which will bring the total U.S. solar cell nameplate capacity to 6.3 GWp.

This expansion complements Canadian Solar’s capacity increase at its Mesquite, Texas module plant, which is expanding from 5 GWp to 10 GWp by the second half of 2026. The company states these efforts are strengthening the American solar supply chain.
