Global solar capacity reaches record-breaking new heights

Global solar capacity has reached a staggering 2.2 TW, marking a milestone in the pursuit of renewable energy solutions worldwide. In the first half of 2024 alone, a record-breaking 597 GW was installed, underscoring the relentless pace of solar energy adoption. SolarBank’s commitment to renewable energy is further evidenced by their 7.2 MW Glor Rd Project and the 4.584 MW Forest Hill Rd Solar Project, both aimed at powering hundreds of homes across New York State.

Incentives fueling international rise in global solar capacity

SolarBank’s ventures are not limited to the United States. They are also expanding into international territories with projects like the 6.9 MW Brooklyn Project in Nova Scotia, Canada, developed under the Nova Scotia Community Solar Program. These projects are not only facilitating cleaner energy access but also benefiting from various incentive programs. In New York, for example, SolarBank is leveraging the NY-Sun Program, which offers incentives of up to $0.245 per watt DC to support project financing. Moreover, these projects qualify for compensation under the Value of Distributed Energy Resources (VDER) rate.

Austria is also making significant contributions to the global solar landscape, with projections indicating an additional 2.2 GW of new photovoltaic (PV) solar capacity in 2024.
