Midsummer secures SEK 236M CIGS equipment order from Swedish defense group

Swedish thin-film solar specialist Midsummer has secured its largest single order to date, a landmark agreement valued at SEK 236 million (approximately US$25.5 million). The deal, finalized around March 2026, comes from an undisclosed Swedish industrial and defense group and represents a significant expansion of their manufacturing capabilities using Midsummer’s advanced technology.

Advanced DUO Machinery for CIGS Production

This substantial follow-up order is specifically for Midsummer’s state-of-the-art DUO production machinery. This equipment is engineered to manufacture complete, cadmium-free CIGS (copper indium gallium selenide) thin-film solar cells. The fact that this is a repeat purchase from an existing client serves as a powerful testament to the success and reliability of Midsummer’s technology, prompting the client to scale up their production capacity significantly.

Confidence in Thin-Film CIGS Technology

This major investment from a key industrial player powerfully endorses the CIGS solar market. The technology’s key attributes—being lightweight and flexible—make it a compelling alternative to traditional rigid silicon panels, particularly for specialized applications. The client’s decision to reinvest in and expand their use of Midsummer’s equipment signals robust confidence in the performance and market potential of these advanced solar solutions.
