Impressive Fire-resistant solar module Launched by Longi in China

Longi Launches Fire-Resistant Solar Module for Rooftop PV in China

In a significant move to enhance safety in the rapidly growing rooftop solar market, leading Chinese manufacturer LONGi has unveiled a fire-resistant version of its Hi-MO X10 module. The new product was launched on March 9, 2026, at the 19th China International Solar Utilization Conference and Exhibition (SUCE), specifically targeting the distributed photovoltaic (PV) sector.

This launch directly addresses rising safety concerns within China’s rooftop PV segment, where fire incidents caused by issues like DC arcing and hot spots have become more prominent. By introducing a module with advanced safety features, LONGi aims to provide a more secure and reliable solution for residential and commercial installations.

Advanced Technology for Enhanced Fire-resistant solar module Safety

The new fire-resistant module is built upon LONGi’s high-performance Hi-MO X10 platform, which features second-generation hybrid passivated back contact (HPBC 2.0) cell technology. This advanced back-contact design is not only key to its high efficiency but also integral to its enhanced safety profile.

To specifically combat fire risks, LONGi has integrated several key enhancements:

  • Hot-Spot Prevention: A unique honeycomb-style current-diversion structure is incorporated to effectively limit the formation of hot spots, a common cause of module failure and fire.
  • Arcing Risk Reduction: The junction box has been reinforced with improved sealing and welding, significantly reducing the risk of dangerous DC arcing.
  • Flame-Retardant Materials: Both the encapsulation materials and the junction box are constructed from flame-retardant components to inhibit the spread of fire.
  • High-Temperature Glass: The module uses high-temperature-resistant front glass, designed to withstand prolonged exposure to flames without compromising structural integrity.

Performance and Specifications of the Fire-resistant solar module

While safety is the primary focus, the new module does not compromise on performance. It maintains the high standards of the Hi-MO X10 series, offering a powerful and efficient solution for rooftop applications.

Key technical specifications include:

  • Conversion Efficiency: A maximum conversion efficiency of up to 24.8%, with an average mass-production efficiency exceeding 24.5%.
  • Power Output: The module is available in a power range of 580 W to 630 W, utilizing 108 half-cells.
  • System Compatibility: It supports a 1,500 V DC system architecture, making it suitable for modern installations.
  • Durability: The module has a power temperature coefficient of -0.26%/°C and is designed to operate in a wide temperature range from -40°C to +85°C.
  • Warranty: LONGi provides a comprehensive 30-year product and power warranty.

Rigorous Certification and Validation of the Fire-resistant solar module

To validate its safety claims, the fire-resistant Hi-MO X10 has undergone extensive testing. It has achieved a Class A fire certification from the renowned testing body TÜV Rheinland at the full-module, mass-production level.

Furthermore, its performance and safety have been verified by China’s National Center of Supervision and Inspection on Solar Photovoltaic Products Quality (CPVT). The module is fully compliant with international standards, including IEC 61215 and IEC 61730, ensuring it meets the highest quality and safety benchmarks for the global market.
