Impressive Guatemala solar project divestment nets $27M

MPC Energy Solutions Divests Guatemala Solar Project

In a significant strategic move, MPC Energy Solutions (MPCES) has announced the divestment of its San Patricio solar project located in Guatemala. The sale is part of a larger transaction that also includes the company’s Santa Rosa & Villa Sol project in El Salvador, signaling a potential shift in the company’s regional focus.

Details of the Transaction: The Guatemala solar project divestment

The decision to divest the assets was officially announced following the company’s Q3 2025 report. The deal, which has already received shareholder approval at an Extraordinary General Meeting, is projected to generate approximately USD 27 million in equity proceeds for MPC Energy Solutions.

The transaction is expected to formally close in the second quarter of 2026. Upon closing, the company plans to distribute a substantial portion of the proceeds, along with existing free cash reserves, directly to its shareholders.

A Broader Strategic Pivot in Latin America: The Guatemala solar project divestment

This divestment appears to be a key step in a broader strategic re-evaluation of the company’s presence in Latin America. MPC Energy Solutions, which focuses on developing, building, owning, and operating utility-scale solar projects, is now reportedly considering the sale of its remaining power assets in the region once the current Guatemala and El Salvador deal is finalized.

The company’s remaining operational portfolio in the region includes the Los Girasoles project in Colombia and the Los Santos project in Mexico. Additionally, MPCES holds the La Perla development project in El Salvador. The potential offloading of these assets would mark a significant consolidation of the company’s activities and a strategic exit from a market it has been actively involved in. This latest move provides a clear return to investors while paving the way for a potential new chapter for the company’s investment focus.
