Klevenow Solar Plant on Track for Q2 2026 Completion

A New Milestone for German Renewables in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

In a significant stride for Germany’s energy transition, developer Zelestra has confirmed its 27.5 MWdc Klevenow solar project is on schedule for commercial operation by the second quarter of 2026. Situated in the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the facility represents a key development in the region’s clean energy infrastructure, with construction advancing swiftly and solar module delivery anticipated in the coming weeks.

Powering Industry and Creating Opportunity

Once fully operational, the Klevenow solar plant is engineered to be a formidable power producer, with an estimated annual output of 28,700 MWh of clean electricity. This generation capacity is strategically targeted to meet the commercial and industrial demand within the Pomeranian Triangle. Beyond its energy contribution, the project is a boon for the local economy, creating around 40 jobs during its construction phase. The environmental benefits are equally substantial, with the plant expected to prevent approximately 9,500 tonnes of COâ‚‚ emissions each year by displacing fossil fuel-based power sources.

Integrating Advanced Storage for Enhanced Grid Reliability

Zelestra is elevating the project’s impact by incorporating a 30 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). This hybrid design is critical for modern grid management, enabling the plant to capture and store excess solar energy during peak production times. The stored power can then be dispatched to the grid during periods of high demand or low solar generation, thereby enhancing local energy support and contributing to a more stable and resilient power supply for the community.

Klevenow as a Launchpad for Ambitious Growth

According to Robert Hienz, Zelestra’s CEO in Germany, the Klevenow facility is the inaugural project in a significant period of construction for the company. This single plant is a precursor to a much larger strategic push, underpinned by a massive 2 GW development pipeline that includes 25 solar and 15 BESS projects across Germany—a portfolio significantly bolstered by the company’s acquisition of East Energy in October 2024. Later this year, Zelestra plans to break ground on an additional 120 MW of solar capacity secured through EEG tenders. This rapid expansion is managed by a growing team of over 70 professionals in Hamburg, Berlin, and Rostock, cementing Zelestra’s position as an emerging leader in Germany’s renewable sector.
