Yuchengco Group Activates P1.8-B Isabela solar park
The Yuchengco Group has marked a significant milestone in the Philippine renewable energy sector with the activation of its P1.8-billion, 40-megawatt (MW) solar power plant in Isabela province. This major development, spearheaded by Rizal Green Energy Corp. (RGEC) through its subsidiary BKS Green Energy Corp., boosts the nation’s clean energy capacity and strengthens its energy security.
Project Details and Impact of Isabela solar park
The new facility, named the Liman Solar Power Plant, is strategically located in San Pablo, Isabela. As of Wednesday, it has officially begun supplying clean electricity to the national grid. The 40-MW plant has the capacity to power approximately 33,000 homes, making a substantial contribution to the energy needs of the region.
This project is the result of a successful joint venture between Yuchengco’s PetroGreen Energy Corp. (PGEC) and the Japan-based Taisei Corp., demonstrating a powerful collaboration in advancing the country’s sustainable energy goals.
A Timely Boost for National Energy Security from Isabela solar park
The launch of the Liman Solar Power Plant comes at a crucial time. PGEC President and CEO F.G. Delfin, Jr. highlighted the project’s importance in securing the Philippines’ energy supply and reducing its reliance on foreign imports, particularly with the backdrop of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East that threaten global energy stability.
This sentiment is strongly supported by the government. Department of Energy (DOE) Renewable Energy Bureau head Marissa Cerezo, who attended the plant’s inauguration, noted that Energy Secretary Sharon Garin has directed the agency to expedite all renewable projects scheduled for completion by 2026. This proactive measure aims to shield the Philippine economy from potential global disruptions, such as a projected 16% hike in electricity prices or a P4 per kilowatt-hour increase in spot market prices.
The successful activation of the Isabela solar park is a clear step forward in RGEC’s mission to expand its renewable energy portfolio and a testament to the Yuchengco Group’s commitment to powering a greener, more energy-independent Philippines.
