Zenith Energy Expands Italian Solar Pipeline to 173.5 MWp
Zenith Energy Ltd. has announced a significant expansion of its solar development pipeline in Italy, which has now reached an impressive 173.5 megawatt-peak (MWp). This strategic growth underscores the company’s rapid progress and commitment to becoming a key player in Italy’s renewable energy sector.
The milestone, announced on March 20, 2026, was achieved through the acquisition of the Rieti-2 agrivoltaic project. This new addition demonstrates Zenith’s focused strategy of building a robust and diverse portfolio of clean energy assets.
A Major Leap with the Rieti-2 Project for Italian solar energy
The cornerstone of this expansion is the acquisition of the Rieti-2 project, located in the Lazio region of Italy. This agrivoltaic development adds approximately 10 MWp to Zenith’s portfolio. Once operational, the Rieti-2 project is projected to generate between 14 and 15 gigawatt-hours (GWh) of clean electricity annually, contributing significantly to the local grid and Italy’s renewable energy targets.
This single acquisition has propelled Zenith’s total pipeline to 173.5 MWp, a remarkable achievement accomplished in less than a year.
Surpassing Goals and Setting New Ambitions for Italian solar energy
The company’s swift progress puts it on a clear path to exceed its 2026 target of 200 MWp. According to company statements, Zenith expects to surpass this goal well before the end of the year and is already planning to set more ambitious targets for the future. This rapid scaling highlights the effectiveness of Zenith’s development and acquisition strategy in the dynamic Italian market.
Advancements Across the Portfolio of Italian solar energy
In addition to the new acquisition, Zenith Energy is making tangible progress on its existing projects. The company recently commenced construction on three solar projects in the Puglia region, totaling 7 MWp.
These projects are expected to generate approximately €1 million in annual revenue, with a projected payback period of just five to six years. This favorable financial outlook is supported by the high solar irradiation levels in southern Italy and strong current electricity prices, which have been consistently above €140 per megawatt-hour (MWh).
Strategic Vision in a Shifting Italian solar energy Landscape
CEO Andrea Cattaneo noted the strategic importance of developing domestic energy production. He highlighted that geopolitical tensions, particularly in the Middle East, continue to influence and elevate Italian electricity prices, reinforcing the urgent need for energy independence and stable, locally sourced power.
Zenith’s overarching strategy involves advancing its entire portfolio to “Ready-to-Build” status. This approach provides the company with maximum flexibility, allowing it to either monetize the assets by selling them or to build and operate the plants to generate long-term, recurring revenues. This dual-pronged strategy positions Zenith Energy to capitalize on market opportunities and deliver sustained value.
