JA Solar JUWI agreement: 220MW Supply for Stunning Solar Projects

JA Solar to supply high-efficiency modules for major JUWI projects in South Africa

JA Solar has finalized an agreement to supply 220MW of its high-efficiency PV modules to JUWI South Africa for two pivotal renewable energy initiatives: the 84 MW Wolf Wind Project and the 136 MW Garob Wind Project. Both projects are part of South Africa’s Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme (REIPPPP) and are expected to begin commercial operations by 2025.

The REIPPPP is South Africa’s strategic framework for promoting renewable energy development and reducing the nation’s reliance on coal. Since its inception in 2011, the program has attracted more than R209 billion (US$13 billion) in foreign direct investment, making it the largest renewable energy procurement initiative on the African continent.

REIPPPP: A catalyst for South Africa’s solar growth

The REIPPPP has played a crucial role in diversifying South Africa’s energy portfolio, with solar PV accounting for 45% of the procured capacity and wind energy for 55%.

To date, 59 solar PV projects generating a combined 3.7 GW of power have been launched under this program. These projects demonstrate South Africa’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint while ensuring energy security.

JA Solar’s advanced PV modules, renowned for their high efficiency and durability, will be instrumental in the success of the Wolf Wind and Garob Wind Projects. These projects are expected to provide clean energy to thousands of South African households, decreasing the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels and curbing greenhouse gas emissions.

Chengsong Li, Assistant President of JA Solar, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, stating, “We are delighted to partner with JUWI South Africa and support the country’s transition to a sustainable energy future. Our high-efficiency PV modules are designed to perform well in various climates, making them an ideal choice for South Africa’s renewable energy projects.”

Partnership reflects JA Solar’s expanding global strategy

This partnership with JUWI South Africa aligns with JA Solar’s broader strategy to expand its global footprint in the solar market. The company has been a key supplier of PV modules for numerous large-scale solar projects worldwide, including in Europe, Asia, and the Americas.

Amid growing global demand for renewable energy solutions, JA Solar remains committed to delivering innovative and reliable solar technologies to meet the world’s evolving energy needs. The company’s focus on research and development, backed by state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities, ensures its leadership position in the solar industry.

The 220 MW supply agreement with JUWI South Africa marks a significant milestone for JA Solar as a global leader in solar technology. With the completion of the Wolf Wind and Garob Wind Projects, JA Solar will further solidify its contribution to South Africa’s renewable energy objectives, paving the way for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
