Bulgaria’s renewable energy landscape is set for a major transformation with the development of a new 240MW solar power plant in the village of Tenevo, Yambol district. In a strategic partnership announced on July 23, 2024, global photovoltaic product manufacturer JA Solar will supply its high-performance modules to Solarpro, a leading European EPC contractor managing the project.
The facility will be equipped with JA Solar’s state-of-the-art DeepBlue 4.0 Pro high-efficiency modules. These panels feature advanced TOPCon (tunnel oxide passivated contact) technology, renowned for its high conversion efficiency and reliable performance across diverse environmental conditions. As the EPC contractor, Solarpro is tasked with overseeing the project’s entire lifecycle, from initial design and engineering to construction and ongoing operational monitoring, ensuring the plant meets its performance targets.
Project Timeline and Financial Backing
The project is on a fast track, with the installation of solar modules scheduled to commence in the third quarter of 2024. The plant is expected to be connected to the grid and achieve full commercial operation by the end of the second quarter of 2025. This ambitious timeline is supported by significant financial backing from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which has provided a senior loan of up to €50 million (US$54 million) under the InvestEU Framework for Sustainable Transition.
Upon completion, the Tenevo solar plant will stand as one of the largest in the region. Its output will provide a substantial boost to Bulgaria’s renewable energy capacity, contributing directly to the country’s national clean energy goals and supporting the European Union’s broader commitment to decarbonization.
Leadership on a Greener Future
Leaders from both companies have emphasized the project’s strategic importance. Aiqing Yang, Executive President of JA Solar, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “We’re excited to work with Solarpro on this significant project to bring our most advanced products to the country,” Yang stated. “Building on this partnership, we look forward to further promoting sustainable energy development in Europe with our partners through our dedicated services and advanced products.”
Echoing this sentiment, Krasen Mateev, CEO of Solarpro, highlighted the project’s impact. “We are thrilled to partner with JA Solar on this impactful project. This strategic cooperation exemplifies Solarpro’s commitment to delivering innovative and sustainable energy solutions that drive the transition to a greener future in Bulgaria and beyond,” he commented.
Beyond its clean energy generation, the project is expected to deliver significant economic and environmental benefits. It will stimulate local job creation during its construction and operation phases while helping to stabilize energy prices and reduce Bulgaria’s dependence on imported fossil fuels. Environmentally, the plant will play a key role in displacing fossil-fuel-based power generation, leading to a major reduction in carbon dioxide emissions and contributing to improved air quality.

Hi and thanks for your comment. We are only delivering the machines for the solar panel making. Not the panels…
