This 500 MW initiative is a critical step toward achieving Indonesia’s goal of sourcing 23% of its energy from renewables by 2025, as outlined in the RUPTL 2021–2030 national electricity plan. With coal currently generating around 60% of the nation’s power, large-scale solar projects are essential for decarbonization.

Furthermore, the project supports Indonesia’s net metering policies, enabling system owners to feed surplus solar power back into PLN’s grid. This not only provides financial incentives for consumers but also enhances grid stability by diversifying power sources.

The partnership also aligns with the broader objectives of Indonesia’s Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP), an international agreement backed by $20 billion in funding to help the country transition away from fossil fuels.
